Nairobi July 25 : The Inclusive Africa Conference 2025 brought together changemakers, innovators, and community leaders to spotlight inclusive solutions across the continent. Among the standout moments was a compelling exchange between Bodhi – Inclusive Care Centre and the award-winning team behind Epicare Africa, this year’s 1st Runners-Up for innovation in health inclusion.
Epicare Africa, a dynamic social enterprise transforming epilepsy care, was recognized for its groundbreaking product—the EpiGuard, a smart oral safety device designed to prevent oral injuries during seizures. However, the organization’s impact reaches far beyond technology. Through grassroots caregiver training, public education, and digital health tools, Epicare is reshaping how epilepsy is approached across Africa—not with stigma, but with dignity.
Representing India, Dr. Anil Jaggi of Bodhi – Inclusive Care Centre, an initiative of the Society for Inclusive Development (SFID), shared his vision of equity in mental and neurological healthcare during Inclusive Africa Conference held in Nairobi, Kenya.
Rooted in empathy, community participation, and trauma-informed practices, Bodhi is building a complete ecosystem of inclusion, with a strong focus on innovation and assistive technologies (AT)—both products and services to reach Indian masses.
Driven by the belief that “inclusion is a mindset,” Bodhi fosters safe, healing spaces for individuals often excluded from traditional care systems.
“Inclusive health means putting people before problems,” said Dr. Anil during the exchange with the Epicare team. “When we design with compassion and purpose, we don’t just treat conditions—we transform lives.”
The dialogue between the two teams revealed a shared mission: strengthening caregiver networks, expanding culturally sensitive education, and leveraging technology to reach remote and marginalized communities. Both organizations underscored the importance of Indo-African partnerships to create scalable, inclusive health solutions that can respond to diverse needs.
“Meeting Dr. Anil felt like meeting a kindred spirit,” said Fiona Night, CEO of Epicare Africa. “Our work may focus on different conditions, but our purpose is the same—to make health inclusive, empowering, and human.”
As the conference came to a close, it was clear that the connections forged in Nairobi would resonate far beyond. With future collaborations between Epicare Africa and BODHI on the horizon, a promising new chapter in inclusive health innovation is unfolding—rooted in collaboration, community, and care.
