[/gt_alert]

New Delhi, February 25, 2016 : India’s leading consumer products maker Dabur India Ltd today announced the launch of a Sales Training programme for rural youth under the Swavalamban initiative that’s aimed at improving the employability of local youth from villages by providing free technical training and skill development. The first batch of 25 rural youth started their Sales Training programme today at the Rural Development and Self-Employment Training Institute (RUDSETI) in Hapur district.

This initiative – christened Swavalamban – is run in association with RUDSETI and seeks to provide training to rural youth and also provide guaranteed employment to these youth, post completing their training.

Announcing the launch of this social initiative, Dabur India Ltd Head-Global Human Capital and CSR Mr. A. Sudhakar said:  “As a country, India will also have a strong surplus in working population (age 15-50) by 2020, which should help us maintain the momentum on this growth story. A significant portion of this demographic dividend lies in rural areas, which will be one of the important growth engines in future. To leverage this advantage, we feel that it is imperative that companies should also focus on skill building and vocational training to make the youth employable in the organized sector. Towards this end, Dabur has initiated the Swavalamban programme that seeks to make the rural youth more employable by arming them with the requisite skill sets.”

The objective of this initiative is to identify the training needs of the rural youth, provide training through a well-planned and designed curriculum, engage youth in business process and contribute in Nation Building and Economic Development of the country. In addition to Sales training (for Salesman/Selling skills), this programme also offers courses on Merchandising (for Visibility of Product and POS) and Promoter (for Attending customer). The 240-hour course will include in-house coaching, field training and exams & extra-curricular activity.

“At Dabur, we believe that an organization’s true worth lies beyond its business, and is best reflected by the service it renders to the community and the society. Businesses have a responsibility to subserve larger societal goals as they have the ability to contribute significantly and impactfully to sustainable and inclusive development. This programme is another step forward in this direction,” Mr. Sudhakar added.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Dhirendra Kumar Choudhary, Director, RUDSETI-Ghaziabad said : “The course curriculum design for our trainees has always been a dynamic process with regular updates depending upon the socio-economic changes and business opportunities in the operational areas. Looking at the great demand for skilled personnel in the area of merchandizing, sales and trade promotion in the area a new course has been developed in association with Dabur India Ltd, wherein we expect to train unemployed and unskilled youth. We are very optmisitic that at the end of the intervention and after imbibing the requisite skills, these youth will be absorbed by the industry.”

The root idea of Rural Development & Self Employment Training Institute (RUDSETI) was laid through the concept of dharma at Dharmasthala. The word “Dharma” traditionally means religion, ritual, duty, righteousness and alms. It alos implies justice, truthfulness, freedom from fear, faith, solace, fulfilment and peace. Padmavibhushana Dr. D. Vereendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala foresaw the gap between the available jobs and rising youth population, and his initiative along with the backing of two PSU banks led to the establishment of RUDSETI way back in 1982 jointly by Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational Trust, SyndicateBank and Canara Bank. The collective thinking gave concrete shape in providing an institutional framework in the form of Rural Development & Self Employment Training Institute in 1982.
