Over 150 stakeholders came together to deliberate on the future of solar energy at the 3rd National Workshop on Solar Energy Utilization for Sustainable Development held at National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur. Organized by Environmental Materials Division and Energy and Resource Management Division, the workshop was attended by prominent dignitaries such as Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Director, CSIR-NEERI, Nagpur, Prof. D.D. Sarma, J.N. Tata Chair Professor, IISc, Bengaluru, Dr. S. Sivaram,INSA Senior Scientist, IISER, Pune, Kunwer Sachdev, Su-Kam Power Systems, New Delhi, Dr. T. Srinivas, Professor, VIT University, Vellore, and Dr. S. Sakthivel, ARCI, Hyderabad.
The two-day workshop commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Director, CSIR-NEERI, Nagpur. Speaking on the topic ‘Challenges of a Solar Business’, Su-Kam Managing Director and Guest of Honour Mr. Kunwer Sachdev chronicled the journey of the twenty-year-old company.
“To begin with, solar business encounters several hurdles such as inadequate knowledge of the sector, lack of support for quality products, no clarity from government agencies and the like. The journey of Su-Kam was full of ups and downs. Su-Kam started with a meagre capital of Rs 10,000 in a small shop of 20 square meters. Today in 2018, it has over 150 million turnover, more than 50,000 dealers network and a formidable presence in around 90 countries,” he said.
Detailing the achievements of Su-Kam, he said that the company is a pioneer in MOFSET based inverters. It has also developed the first plastic body inverter and India’s first sine wave UPS. Now the company has forayed into the solar segment where it has built deep inroads.
Besides developing state-of-the-art products, Su-Kam has also been spreading awareness about solar energy. To this end, it has started its own Youtube channel which has over 45000 subscribers. The company also organized solar workshops to impart training in solar energy across the country. Recently it has started a dedicated toll-free helpline to resolve all queries related the sector.
Su-Kam is one among leading players in the residential solar market industry. A continuing focus on quality and strict adherence to international standards has enabled Su-Kam to export its products to various overseas markets across Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Pacific region.
