Almost billion plus people live in mountain areas, and over half the human population depends on mountains for fresh water, food and clean energy. Yet mountains are under threat from climate change, over exploitation and natural disasters, with potentially far-reaching and devastating consequences, people living here face even greater struggles to survive, leading to high migration of young people in search of greener pasture.
The challenge for all of us is to identify & explore innovative, community centric and sustainable livelihood opportunities without disturbing its culture, heritage & ecosystem. In order to raise some un-addressed yet fragile issues, Green Earth Alliance (offshoot of SFID, member UN Global Compact) is organising 4th International Conference on “Sustainable Mountain Development & Tourism (SMDT)” on 22nd – 23rd November 2018 at Kathmandu/Nepal.
